What is a Colonoscopy?

A colonoscopy is a procedure that uses a thin, flexible camera to examine the inside of your large intestine.

It is commonly used to screen for polyps, colorectal cancer, and investigate symptoms like bleeding, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel habits.

Not all polyps are dangerous
but some can turn cancerous over time.

What are  Colonic Polyps?

Colonic polyps are growths in the colon lining — and they are the precursors of colon cancer. While not all polyps turn into cancer, some do. That’s why detecting and removing polyps during a colonoscopy is key. In fact, removing them brings the chance of cancer down to virtually zero.

During a Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy typically lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Step 01
You will lie on your left side bending your knees. IV line will be inserted and you will be asleep during the whole procedure.
Step 02
The Colonoscope is inserted into your rectum to detect abnormalities or changes in your colon.
Step 03
If Dr Poh detects polyps or abnormal growths inside the colon, he is able to remove them.
Step 04
You will wake up 1 to 2 hours later and you can be discharged on the same day.

After a Colonoscopy

Some mild bloating or cramping may be present after the procedure but you should return to normal in a few hours. However, it is important to let your doctor know if you experience any unusual symptoms after the procedure.
